How to (Literally) Ease the Pain of Cable Tie Installation

When you only have a couple of wires or cables on your hands, securing them with cable ties might seem simple enough. But when you have hundreds of cables to bundle, or if you have stainless steel cable ties, the installation process can be a pain (literally).

The constant friction your hands experience when installing multiple cable ties can cause soreness and blisters. And if you’re working with stainless steel cable ties, you add the risk of cutting your palms, fingers, and wrists on the metal. If you want to avoid painful cuts and carpal tunnel syndrome, a cable tie tool can be your new best friend.

In addition to saving your hands, cable tie installation tools can help the installation process go by a lot quicker and easier. When manually installing cable ties, the risk of over-tightening is always present. Over-tightening cable ties can damage the insulation of wires and cables. This can create safety risks and can interfere with the performance of the cables.

One of the (many) great benefits of a cable tie gun is that it prevents over-tightening during installation. Plus, cable ties can quickly tackle large-scale installation tasks which would ordinarily take hours. There are several types of cable tie tools which we’ll go over, and choosing the right one can save you valuable time and help protect you and your cables.

Cable Tie Tool:

A cable tie tool works great for installing standard plastic cable ties that have a tensile strength between 18lbs and 50lbs. To use a cable tie tool, pull the trigger to cinch the tie. Once you reach your desired tension, simply twist the gun to cut off the excess strap.

Cable Tie Install Tool:

A cable tie install tool has all of the great features that a cable tie tool has and more. A cable tie install tool also features automatic cut-off and an adjustable cable tension feature. On the back of the gun, you can select the desired tension that you’d like. Like a cable tie tool, pull the trigger to cinch the tie. Once the tension that you specified is reached, the install tool will automatically cut off the excess strap for you. Pretty nifty!

Heavy Duty Cable Tie Tension Tool:

If you need to bundle heavy duty cables that have a tensile strength between 120lbs and 175lbs, a cable tie tension tool is the way to go. To use a tension tool, cinch the cable tie to your desired diameter, then pull the trigger to cut off the excess strap flush against the cable tie head.

Stainless Steel Cable Tie Installation Tool:

The most difficult types of cable ties to install are stainless steel cable ties. Stainless steel cable ties have an incredibly high tensile strength, and can have sharp edges when cut. Stainless steel cable tie guns can work with cable ties that have a tensile strength of up to 250lbs! Like cable tie install tools, these cable tie guns feature automatic cut-off. Cinch the tie with the trigger and the gun will automatically give you a nice, clean cut when it reaches the needed tension.

Cable Tie Removal Tool:

When it’s time to remove your cable ties, a cable tie cutter can safely and quickly cut the ties off of bundles. When used properly, a cable tie removal tool won’t harm your cable bundles like scissors can. Cable tie installation tools are an efficient and economical way to get installation jobs done. Using the right tools can lead to faster installs and reduce job costs. Try a cable tie tool for your next installation job; you won’t ever want to go back to old-fashioned installs again!
